Incentive programs and utility offerings can change, so current eligibility should be checked before decisions are made. That review belongs alongside—not instead of—good design, permit requirements and realistic lead times. Some projects benefit from energy assessment or equipment documentation; others are driven primarily by the renovation sequence.

Avoid the common planning mistakes
The most expensive errors tend to be coordination errors: buying equipment before understanding the load, ignoring duct routes until ceilings are framed, placing an outdoor unit under snow-shedding roof areas, leaving no condensate plan or assuming an older panel has unlimited room. Another mistake is treating a heat pump as a substitute for envelope work when the renovation has exposed air leaks and weak insulation that are practical to improve.
